Carolina Panthers continue strong 2020 NFL Draft, take Troy Pride Jr.
The Carolina Panthers continue to put together a strong 2020 NFL Draft class with the selection of Troy Pride Jr. in the fourth round.
Matt Rhule is having an incredible debut draft for the Carolina Panthers. They began their 2020 NFL Draft haul with the selection of Derrick Brown at No. 7 overall. Brown may have been the obvious pick, but he is going to be an impact player right away on their defensive line and also provide a ton of long-term upside.
The Panthers continued to build up their defense in the second round, snagging high-upside edge rusher Yetur Gross-Matos early in the round. As athletic safety Jeremy Chinn slipped down the board, the Carolina Panthers traded up to draft him with the final pick of the second round (64th overall). With their first three selections of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Panthers found incredible value with defensive playmakers. They did something similar with their first pick on Day 3.
With the 113th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers made another defensive addition, bringing cornerback Troy Pride Jr. into the mix. Pride is an incredibly fast and smooth cornerback prospect who changes directions quickly and is physical at the line of scrimmage. Pride is a bit of a small prospect, but he shows good instincts in coverage and the ability to shine in both man and zone coverages.
Pride is unlikely to grow into a shutdown option on the outside, but he is a talented and pesky cornerback prospect who should be able to come in and make an immediate impact. Make no mistake about it, the Carolina Panthers found good value with this pick in the fourth round.
The Panthers continue to impress with their draft haul, loading up with long, athletic and impactful defensive prospects. They are working hard to rebuild this roster and are doing a nice job of getting the most out of all of their picks. A great showing for Rhule and company so far.
