Trevis Gipson is an exciting edge rusher who the Chicago Bears took in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Chicago Bears have done a nice job of making the most out of what they have in the 2020 NFL Draft. Due to the Khalil Mack trade, the Bears did not have a ton of draft capital to work with this year, but they have been able to add a few impact players at key positions of need.

In particular, I really liked the Bears snagging Utah cornerback Jaylon Johnson with the 50th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Johnson is a long and physical cornerback who should be able to come in and make an immediate impact for this team. Cornerback was a massive need for the Bears entering the 2020 NFL Draft and they filled it with an impressive football player.

Another Chicago Bears pick that stands out is the selection of Trevis Gipson in the fifth round. Gipson flashed fantastic upside at Tulsa college but was never put in a position to make a consistent impact on the field. Tulsa used Gipson as a down defensive end, commonly lining up in a four and five-technique.

Gipson is a quick and athletic edge rusher who should be used as a stand-up rusher at the next level. He shows an explosive first step and fantastic bend around the edge. This guy can create pressure off of the edge and also shows an impressive quick inside move. He just needs to be put in a position to succeed as a stand-up rusher.

Gipson is an ideal fit as 3-4 outside linebacker in the Bears’ defense and should be able to come in and make an immediate impact as a situational rusher for this team. He is not going to push Mack or Robert Quinn for a starting spot, but there is a lot to like about Gipson’s game. He has a lot of long-term upside at the next level.
