2020 NFL Draft: A lot to like about Raiders taking CB Amik Robertson
The Las Vegas Raiders were able to find impressive value with the selection of Amik Robertson in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
As we get late into the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, teams are now just looking for good football players who work their way onto the active roster next season. Positional value and team needs are obviously important, but finding good football players can be difficult late. If you like a guy, take him.
With the 139th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders were able to find an undervalued talent at the cornerback position. Amik Robertson lacks ideal size at the cornerback position, but he makes up for it in a variety of ways on the field.
Robertson is a tough and scrappy defender who is constantly making life difficult on opposing receivers. He is a smooth defensive back who moves well in space and attacks the ball in the air extremely well. Robertson does a fantastic job of closing on the receiver quickly and has a knack for making plays on the ball.
At 5-foot-8, 187 pounds, obviously lacks ideal size and will likely only be a slot cornerback at the next level. That being said, slot cornerback is a starting position in today’s NFL, allowing guys like Robertson to make a consistent impact on the field.
His lack of size is obviously a concern, but Robertson’s physicality, quickness and ball skills give him a chance to be a real impact player in the Raiders’ secondary. Finding value is incredibly important this late in the draft and that is exactly what the Raiders did here. Robertson could have easily been a Day 2 selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.
It is going to be difficult for the Raiders to compete in the AFC West the next couple of seasons, but if they continue to find good football players like Robertson, they will be in the mix.
