2020 NFL Draft: Miami Dolphins continue OL build with Solomon Kindley
The Miami Dolphins continue the offensive line barrage in the 2020 NFL Draft with Solomon Kindley.
The Miami Dolphins started off day three of the 2020 NFL Draft by continuing their philosophy of loading up the offensive line, selecting Georgia guard Solomon Kindley in round four. Kindley joins first-round pick Austin Jackson and second-round pick Robert Hunt in what will be a very new look to protect franchise quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Kindley fits the mold that Hunt does in that he’s more of a power guard than anything else. He struggles a bit to move laterally in a phone booth at guard, and quicker interior rushers could give him some early headaches.
However, Kindley will be an absolute force in the run game. He’s extremely stout at the point of attack, and while he won’t reset the line of scrimmage in favor, his excellent grip strength and hand technique will be important in keeping defenders engaged to open up holes in the running game.
Kindley is someone who can develop into a quality starter, but the Dolphins may have him trot out right away with the lack of depth and talent they have at the position. He likely won’t be a true hindrance out there to start, but there may be some growing pains in pass protection, as was highlighted above.
The pick here shows the Dolphins’ commitment to a powerful group on the interior. Having Kindley pair with Hunt on the inside means that Miami could bring a bigger commitment to the run game in 2020 under Chan Gailey to take some pressure off of Tagovailoa early in his career.
The Dolphins have really put together a great group of hog mollies so far in the 2020 NFL Draft, and while they might not be done addressing it, it’s been solid so far, and they’ve shown their commitment in an area they needed to.
