2020 NFL Draft: Donovan Peoples-Jones a great upside grab for Browns
Donovan Peoples-Jones was not overly productive in college, but he is a talented guy who could become a huge steal for the Cleveland Browns in the 2020 NFL Draft.
With the 2020 NFL Draft winding down, it is time to start looking at specific fits who make sense for the teams that draft them. Well, that and huge upside grabs. With the 187th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns took a shot on some impressive athletic upside, snagging wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones out of Michigan.
Peoples-Jones was considered by most to be a possible Day 2 pick in this draft class. He is a former five-star recruit who arrived at Michigan with a ton of hype. Unfortunately, Peoples-Jones was never able to put up major production in college, but he did flash an impressive combination of size, catch radius and deep speed.
Peoples-Jones is a big and physical player who can make some plays in contested-catch situations. He also has the speed to legitimately stretch the field on the outside and shows tremendous natural ball skills.
While DPJ is a bit of a raw talent who needs to become a more refined route runner at the next level, his combination of size, speed and hands make him an extremely intriguing player. I really think that the quarterback play at Michigan held him back from making a consistent impact on the field.
Peoples-Jones shows an impressive overall skillset, but he seemed to be ignored too often in college. Is this incompetence from the Michigan coaching staff and quarterback or does DPJ deserve some blame? Honestly, the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.
Make no mistake about it, Donovan Peoples-Jones should have been off of the board way before pick No. 187 and is a worthy upside grab this late. The Cleveland Browns found themselves a potential massive steal late in the 2020 NFL Draft.
