2020 NFL Draft: Carolina Panthers snag impact defender in Jeremy Chinn
The Carolina Panthers are putting together an impressive 2020 NFL Draft class. Their selection of Jeremy Chinn stands out as a particularly great pick.
The Carolina Panthers continue to crush the 2020 NFL Draft. Quietly, this franchise is putting together an impressive 2020 NFL Draft class, filling with impact playmakers on the defensive side of the ball. The first-round selection of Derrick Brown was obvious, but it was the right pick. There was also a lot to like about their selection of Yetur Gross-Matos early in the second round.
As the second round started to wind down, the Carolina Panthers got aggressive and made a move up for another defensive playmaker, snagging Jeremy Chinn at No. 64 overall.
Chinn is a gifted safety prospect who has fantastic upside at the next level. Chinn is a bit of a raw prospect, but his overall speed and athleticism at the safety position are incredibly impressive. Chinn is a tough and aggressive in-the-box defender who shows solid block shed ability and can come up and make plays against the run. He is a raw player in coverage, but his combination of speed, quickness, athleticism and ball skills will play at the next level.
The Carolina Panthers are doing a great job of consistently finding value in the 2020 NFL Draft. Chinn is a bit of a project player but his long-term upside lines up well with the expected competitive window of the Panthers. The Panthers are extremely unlikely to compete in a loaded NFC South this season, but they are stockpiling some serious talent on this roster and could end up getting in the mix soon.
Head coach Matt Rhule is going to get the Panthers on track and they are are getting closer by finding talented players throughout the 2020 NFL Draft. This is undoubtedly a team that is on the rise.
