Scouting Report. 32. Pick Analysis. OT. Houston. Josh Jones. 2. player

With the 72nd pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals were able to land Josh Jones. This pick is the definition of value. There was a lot of hype about Josh Jones being selected at the end of the first round for a while and, clearly, that did not happen.

With a large need at offensive tackle still looming, and not having a second-round pick after acquiring Deandre Hopkins; it seemed like they were going to need to settle for a tackle. However, Josh Jones fell right into their laps and they nabbed a starting caliber tackle with immense upside, and they didn’t think twice about it.

On my big board, I had a second-round grade on Jones, and he is my OT6. In the 2020 NFL Draft, he went in the third round and was the ninth offensive tackle taken; the value with this pick is tremendous. Enough about the pick, let’s get to the player.

Josh Jones was flying under the radar a bit, until the Senior Bowl. At the Senior Bowl, Jones showed off his athleticism and pass blocking skills. He is an incredible mover and has a great ability to mirror pass rushers that come into his frame. However, he is a bit raw. He needs some development with his pass sets, as he can get beat as pass rushers work further up the arc. He needs to work on framing players consistently, as he can sometimes lose leverage battles.

As a pick, this is something you should love for the Arizona Cardinals if you’re a fan. Looking at the player, this is someone you should be looking forward to becoming a starting tackle relatively soon. Yet again, the Cardinals have made a great pick!
