Denver Broncos go crazy and pair KJ Hamler with Jerry Jeudy
The Denver Broncos, like mad scientists, have gone back-to-back wide receivers for the first time in team history with KJ Hamler joining Jerry Jeudy.
Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock has to be pinching himself.
John Elway and the Broncos opened up their 2020 NFL Draft by selecting Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy with the 15th overall pick.
It was the highest the Denver Broncos had ever selected a wide receiver and it was also the first time in 10 drafts that John Elway had ever drafted an Alabama player.
How crazy is that?
Not as crazy as Elway, apparently. The mad scientist Elway, who has never had a quarterback that he drafted that he felt he could really build around, has gone back-to-back wide receiver and taken Penn State’s speedy KJ Hamler with the 46th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
This was a scenario some Broncos fans had been dreaming about for a long time, and it has now come to pass.
While Jerry Jeudy is certainly fast, KJ Hamler has a gear the Broncos simply don’t have at receiver, and it’s something they have to constantly deal with going up against the Kansas City Chiefs. Now they have a plethora of options in the passing game for Lock to get the ball to.
The Broncos already had Courtland Sutton — entering his third year in the NFL — as a Pro Bowl alternate in 2019 with a tremendous sophomore season. They have now added the best route runner in the 2020 NFL Draft (Jeudy) to go along with the speed and playmaking ability of Hamler.
How are teams going to defend against this Denver team?
Over the course of 12 months, perhaps no team has improved its outlook more than the Broncos. Their offensive arsenal now includes:
- Drew Lock, QB
- Phillip Lindsay & Melvin Gordon, RB
- Courtland Sutton, WR
- Noah Fant, TE
- Jerry Jeudy, WR
- KJ Hamler, WR
And the Broncos also have a number of other offensive players they like, not the least of which is Hamler’s former Penn State teammate DaeSean Hamilton.
This is a bold strategy by the Broncos but a necessary one as their offensive weaponry has been lacking in recent years. What a fun couple of picks to start the 2020 NFL Draft by John Elway and Vic Fangio.
