The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted legacy player Antoine Winfield Jr., a physical defensive back capable of making an impact at a number of positions.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had a heck of an offseason, haven’t they?

After franchise-tagging Shaquil Barrett — the best free agent move of 2019 — and re-signing players like Jason Pierre-Paul and Ndamukong Suh, the team went out and signed the GOAT, Tom Brady.

Brady brought one of his old pals Rob Gronkowski to the star-studded Buccaneers offense which some are calling The Brady Bunch.

We’ll see if that sticks.

After all of their tremendous offseason movement and a uniform change, the Bucs moved up one spot in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft to take Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs, who will solidify their right tackle position.

They followed that move up by taking one of the most dominant players in the Big Ten defensively, Antoine Winfield Jr.

The legacy of Antoine Winfield Sr., a tremendous cornerback in his time, Winfield was absolutely outstanding as a redshirt sophomore for the Minnesota Gophers.

This is the type of defensive back who is becoming more and more the ‘prototype’ for the back end of the secondary.

Winfield can play the nickel, he can play deep safety, and he can play in the box.

Of course as the son of a great football player, Winfield Jr. has tremendous football IQ and just a really natural feel for the game that comes through in the way he plays.

This pick is interesting for the Buccaneers who have Todd Bowles running their defense and a whole lot of former high draft choices in the secondary. Winfield’s biggest knock coming out is probably going to be his health, which might have been the only thing that prevented him from being a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Winfield picked off a whopping seven passes this past season at Minnesota.
