Atlanta Falcons keep rebuilding defense with Marlon Davidson
The Atlanta Falcons continued rebuilding their defense with the addition of Auburn defensive tackle Marlon Davidson in round two of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Aside from having the worst uniforms in the NFL, the Atlanta Falcons have had a pretty positive offseason.
Atlanta brought in Todd Gurley to be their new featured back and they traded a second-round pick for Hayden Hurst, filling the hole left behind by departed free agent Austin Hooper.
With all the moves made on offense over the last 12 months, the defense has seemingly been neglected. In fact, the Falcons have done sort of a mini rebuild on that side of the ball.
Gone are Desmond Trufant and De’Vondre Campbell along with a number of other players and the Falcons went out and took Clemson’s AJ Terrell with their top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
After addressing the cornerback position, most expected them to go after the defensive line in round two, and that’s exactly what they did by drafting Auburn’s Marlon Davidson with the 47th overall pick.
Davidson plays with some kind of fire in his belly and despite the fact that he didn’t draw as much attention as Derrick Brown in the pre-draft process, he had a heck of a career for the Tigers and is a very versatile player up front.
Not only is Davidson capable of impacting the game as an interior rusher, but even looking like a 3-technique he stood up and played some edge for Auburn. He’s a heck of an athlete and can be trusted with a lot of different responsibilities.
That kind of player is what Dan Quinn loves and the Falcons are getting a guy who is going to be able to come in and fit in really well with Grady Jarrett and Dante Fowler Jr. on the defensive front.
