2020 NFL Draft: Kansas City Chiefs find incredible value in Lucas Niang
The Kansas City Chiefs find incredible value in the 2020 NFL Draft with the selection of Lucas Niang in the third round.
The defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are sticking to their board and finding value in the 2020 NFL Draft. While they have defensive needs, this is an absolutely loaded roster and it allows them the ability to get creative and take players who fit them well. We saw that with Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the first round and we see it again with the selection of Lucas Niang in the third round.
While the health concerns surrounding Niang appear to be for real, based on his tape, the Chiefs found a massive steal late in the third round. Niang is a big and powerful offensive tackle prospect who gets off of the ball quickly and consistently resets the line of scrimmage. Niang’s power immediate stands out on tape, but do not sleep on his ability to move.
Niang has great foot speed and quickness for such a massive man, kicking out and getting into his pass sets quickly and moving in space extremely well. Niang is a scheme versatile player who has the mobility to make an impact in the Kansas City Chiefs’ zone-based offensive scheme.
The Chiefs’ more immediate need is on the interior offensive line and Niang is strictly an offensive tackle prospect. That being said, it’s not like Eric Fisher is a perfect player at the left tackle position. Niang undoubtedly has the upside to unseat Fisher at left tackle for the Chiefs and if he can stay healthy, I expect him to do so at some point down the line.
Make no mistake about it, Lucas Niang is an extremely impressive football player who has massive upside at the offensive tackle position at the next level. Niang late in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft is a huge steal for the Kansas City Chiefs.
