Who needs defense? The Kansas City Chiefs doubled-down on their offensive firepower with the selection of Clyde Edwards-Helaire with the 32nd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Well, that was surprising. While I figured that the Kansas City Chiefs would attack their defensive needs in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, we all knew that a running back selection was possible. However, D’Andre Swift always seemed like the most likely target for the team if they went in that direction.

The Chiefs did go running back at No. 32, but Swift was not the guy. Neither was Jonathan Taylor or J.K. Dobbins. Clyde Edwards-Helaire was the selection and honestly, I kind of love it.

I was certainly not the only one, but I started to fall for Edwards-Helaire as a 2020 NFL Draft prospect during the college football season. I just could not get enough of this guy. His ball-carrier vision, short-area quickness and contact balance shows up at all times. CEH is an incredibly tough and physical runner who is also naturally elusive in the open field.

On top of that, he is an incredible pass-catcher out of the backfield. Edwards-Helaire runs crisp and precise routes, shows incredibly soft hands and gets upfield quickly after the catch. He is a tremendous safety valve in the passing game who always seems to pick up more yardage than he should.

I would not have had the guts to take him over a guy like Swift, but I love that the Chiefs did. He is an absolutely perfect fit for their already incredible offense and he should be a massive contributor right away. Damien Williams has been great for the Kansas City Chiefs, but they would not have taken Edwards-Helaire if they did not plan on using him. I fully expect Clyde Edwards-Helaire to become the featured back in Kansas City and a tremendous asset for the team on the offensive side of the ball.

What a bold move by Brett Veach, Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs. These guys are not messing around.
