2020 NFL Draft: Day 2 mock draft with the first round in the books
Predicting the second and third rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft with a complete Day 2 2020 NFL mock draft.
The first round of the 2020 NFL Draft gave us plenty of twists, turns and unexpected selections. The early part of Round 1 went about as expected, but there were plenty of baffling picks to scrutinize later in the round. With the first round behind us, let’s look ahead to Day 2 and see what kind of picks these teams could be making. Follow along as we make predictions for every pick in the second and third rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft.
It is tempting to give Joe Burrow some help here, but the Cincinnati Benglas have needs on the defensive side of the ball as well. Yetur Gross-Matos is not a perfect prospect, but he has obvious long-term upside and should hear his name called early on Day 2.
Expect the Indianapolis Colts to address their wide receiver situation with one of their second-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft. Denzel Mims has an exciting combination of size and speed that will likely appeal to general manager Chris Ballard.
Do not be surprised if Matt Patricia and the Detroit Lions have a soft spot for a big and powerful defensive lineman like A.J. Epenesa. Personally, I would like to see Epenesa kick inside a bit more at the next level.
Whether he would play linebacker, edge rusher or a bit of both for the New York Giants, Zack Baun is a talented defensive playmaker who would fill an immediate need for this team.
I just don’t see the New England Patriots going with a quarterback here. I could easily be wrong, but they seem to want to see what they have in Jarrett Stidham. A smart and versatile defensive playmaker who played for Nick Saban in college? Xavier McKinney sure feels like a player who Bill Belichick would want.
The Carolina Panthers took care of their interior defensive line need in the first round by selecting Derrick Brown. Here, they swing for the fences with a cornerback selection. Trevon Diggs is a long and athletic cornerback who could grow into an extremely productive player for the team.
Besides the Tua selection, I was not a huge fan of the Miami Dolphins’ haul in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. However, they still have plenty of picks left to continue to build this roster. You can question the value of taking a running back here, but D’Andre Swift is an extremely talented offensive playmaker who could come in and take a major role for the team.
The Houston Texans have to improve their pass rush in the 2020 NFL Draft and Josh Uche is an extremely gifted edge rusher who they should have their eye on when Day 2 kicks off.
The Cleveland Browns found great value at a major position of need when they stood pat and took Jedrick Wills Jr. with the 10th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Here, they fill another major need with another talented prospect, snagging Antoine Winfield Jr. in the second round.
I love how the Jacksonville Jaguars improved their defense in Round 1. In the second round of this mock, they find another impact defender in Ross Blacklock, a talented interior defensive lineman out of TCU.
I think Lloyd Cushenberry III is getting slept on a bit in the 2020 NFL Draft process. He is an extremely athletic interior offensive lineman who shows plenty of pass protection ability. Whether Cushenberry would play center or guard for the Chicago Bears, he would be a welcomed addition to the team.
The Indianapolis Colts already made a significant investment in their interior defensive line earlier this offseason, when they traded for and extended DeForest Buckner. Here, they address their depth at the position by adding Justin Madubuike to the mix. Madubuike has an impressive combination of power and athleticism that will play at the next level.
Getting Tristan Wirfs to lock down their right tackle spot was an ideal scenario for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Next up for the Bucs should be a running back and Jonathan Taylor stands out as a great fit for this team.
Kristian Fulton is a talented cornerback prospect who should not be available this late. If the Denver Broncos are actually able to land him here, you could argue that they had the best first two rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Atlanta Falcons need to work on their defensive line, but J.K. Dobbins is simply too talented of a player to ignore. He could step in and be an immediate playmaker for Matt Ryan and company.
With this pick, the New York Jets continue to build around quarterback Sam Darnold. Michael Pittman Jr. is a big target who catches the ball well in traffic and has a bit of deep speed.
