Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Late-round draft targets after Brady and Gronk additions
Raequan Williams, IDL, Michigan State
The defensive line for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could certainly use some depth and youth from this draft. Vita Vea is solid in the middle, but outside of him, there aren’t many promising options for the future.
The Bucs do have Ndamakong Suh under contract for the 2020 season, but after this year, the team will need some options. I believe Raequan Williams would be a great one.
Williams is a versatile defensive lineman who excels at penetrating into the backfield. He is big, long, strong and slippery and can play any position on the line. Williams is powerful pushing the pocket and driving blockers back and has been productive in his time at Michigan State.
Adding a player like Williams to a line that already has Vita Vea would be outstanding. This would allow Williams to play in multiple spots and alignments and focus on slipping blocks and getting into the backfield, leaving the block-eating to Vea.
Jonathan Garvin, EDGE, Miami
Here, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers stay within the state, targeting Miami edge rusher Jonathan Garvin. Like Williams, Garvin brings optimal size and versatility with him to the NFL.
At 6-foot-4 and with 34-inch arms, Garvin looks the part as an edge rusher. He uses his length well to keep blockers at bay, giving him the ability to detach and make a play. He was productive at Miami and has good burst and bend on the edge.
Garvin could provide some depth and learn behind Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul, with time to develop before taking on a large role. Early in his career, Garvin should be a rotational edge player with three-down potential. He can line up as a rushing linebacker, can put his hand on the ground and rush off the edge as part of an even front and could potentially even bump inside all they way to three-technique if necessary as a valuable depth option.
