Defense

The defensive focus for the San Francisco 49ers in the 2020 NFL Draft should hinge on the secondary, and there are some sleepers out there that would be great later round selections.

1. L’Jarius Sneed, S, Louisiana Tech

Yes, both Jimmie Ward and Jaquiski Tartt are still in the bay with the Niners, but they need some more help there. L’Jarius Sneed isn’t talked about much at all in draft circles, but there’s some upside to his game that warrants development.

Sneed is speed. He has plenty of range and can fly downhill to make plays. Sneed is also a very reliable tackler and lays the boom on occasion. Working on route recognition will be important if he plays near the line of scrimmage, but he’s worth a flyer.

2. Reggie Robinson II, CB, Tulsa

If the Niners want to find a corner late, look no further than Reggie Robinson II. The Tulsa corner is very physical at the line of scrimmage and has great ball skills. He impressed in his time at the Senior Bowl and would develop well in the same corner room as Richard Sherman.

Should the 49ers trade up for a top CB?. dark. Next

3. Josiah Coatney, DL, Mississippi

Last on the list on defense is Mississippi defensive tackle Josiah Coatney. Coatney needs some refinement, but he’s explosive off the snap and has a motor that runs hot. Give him a chance to rotate on the defensive line.
