2020 NFL Draft: Identifying San Francisco 49ers late round targets
Offense
1. Darnell Mooney, WR, Tulane
The receiving corps for the San Francisco 49ers is pretty bare after Deebo Samuel. Dante Pettis hasn’t found it, and Richie James and Kendrick Bourne are better as depth pieces.
Darnell Mooney could be a great day three pick for the Niners. Mooney is one of the more underrated wide receivers in the class, and he brings a ton of speed to the table. Mooney high points the football well and is very slippery after the catch. That type of player is always welcome out by the bay.
2. Michael Onwenu, OL, Michigan
The interior offensive line is more of a need than many realize, and San Fran would be smart to get a guy like Cesar Ruiz early. If they pass on that, look for Michael Onwenu in the later rounds.
Onwenu fits really well with what Kyle Shanahan wants to do. He’s an athletic tackle with quick feet to mirror rushers and can get out in front as a run blocker. Onwenu drops anchor very well in pass protection too. He’ll need to refine his hand placement some, but there’s a chance he could be a day one starter.
3. Trishton Jackson, WR, Syracuse
Finishing up the offense is another receiver, Syracuse’s Trishton Jackson. Jackson is a lean, wiry player with a solid route tree. He’s very fluid in and out of breaks and could find a role in the slot for the Niners if he’s indeed their pick.
