Round 1: Kenneth Murray, LB, Oklahoma

There was a heavy consideration to the trade up for CeeDee Lamb, which was mentioned for the Saints in my trade-up targets article. I can concede some flaws with that suggestion. One is that there are teams that pick ahead of the Saints who may be more aggressive in trading up such as the Falcons and the Broncos.

Also, in order to make this jump up into the top 10, the Saints would almost certainly have to trade their 2021 1st round pick. With Drew Brees on the verge of retirement, it may be wise to hold onto this pick in case they need it to draft a quarterback next year.

Now on to the pick. The Saints’ biggest weakness seems to be the linebacker position. Kenneth Murray is a guy that fits well in their defense, and can immediately be a starter. Murray brings all the tools you want at the linebacker position. He’s fast, physical and able to process plays quickly.

Lining him up next to Demario Davis is the final puzzle piece to fit into this already talented defense. Barring injury, this Saints team is a championship contender with no glaring weakness if they can pick up Murray with this pick.
