Jacksonville Jaguars: Late-Round 2020 NFL Draft targets
By Evan Bachman
There have been a lot of rumors about the Jaguars potentially trading Leonard Fournette, so why not replace him with a very similar player in A.J. Dillon? He is a big, powerful back, who is very tough to bring down because of his size and strength. Often times tacklers just slide off of him while trying to bring him down. Also, while he doesn’t have breakaway speed, he definitely isn’t slow as he recorded a 40 time of 4.53, which is slightly above average for a running back.
There are concerns that I have with Dillon including durability concerns, even though he’s a workhouse, he was a lot of wear and tear because he’s had 845 carries in his three-year career at Boston College. Another concern I have is that he doesn’t have much experience as a receiving back. Last year he only had 13 catches and had only 21 catches over his career. Due to this, he shouldn’t be an every-down back in the NFL, but he definitely has a skill set that can be utilized.
Charlie Heck is a good example of a project type of prospect. While he has massive size, standing at 6-foot-8, he has a lot to improve upon in order to be ready to play snaps in the NFL. Last year he was solid in pass protection, receiving a 74.1 pass-blocking grade from PFF, but his run blocking was a disaster as he received a 62.9 run-blocking grade.
In pass protection, he has improves that can be made but he does do a good job of reacting relatively quickly to the snap and staying on his toes. According to PFF, last year he didn’t allow a single sack. So, while he does need to improve his run blocking, he’s shown enough production in pass protection to warrant a late-round pick.
