Jacksonville Jaguars: Late-Round 2020 NFL Draft targets
By Evan Bachman
Looking over prospects that the Jacksonville Jaguars should target with their day three selections in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The NFL Draft is later tonight and Jacksonville should be one of the most excited fan bases because they have 12 selections, including two first-round picks. While so many fans will tune in for the first round on Thursday night, the best teams can find gems on day three. Just look at last season’s Super Bowl champions, the Chiefs had nine starters who were picked on day three, including Tyreek Hill.
As of now, the Jacksonville Jaguars have a staggering eight day three picks, including three fourth-round picks, two fifth-round picks, two sixth-round picks and one seventh-round pick. This number could go down if they decide to make some trades on day one or two, but either way, they should still have plenty of day three picks.
Last year, the Jaguars look like they may found a hidden gem with their sixth-round pick as they selected Washington State quarterback Gardner Minshew and he ended surprising a lot of people by starting 12 games and winning half of them. So, why not take another Washington State quarterback this year?
Unless otherwise noted, all combine results were found at 247 Sports.
I had Anthony Gordon going the Jacksonville Jaguars in a recent seven-round mock draft and I have to say I really like this match. Getting Gordon and Minshew back in the same quarterback room could help both of them with their development because they’re already familiar with each other.
However, the reasons for the Jaguars to select Gordon go beyond just his familiarity with Minshew. His best trait is his accuracy, at Washington State, according to Pro Football Focus he had an adjusted completion percentage of 79.8%, which is extremely impressive. Like any late-round pick, he has his flaws. In particular, Gordon turns the ball over too often and he struggles at dealing with pressure.
