2020 NFL Draft: Washington Redskins don’t hesitate to take Chase Young
By Matt Murray
With the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select Chase Young.
The Cincinnati Bengals made it known early that the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft would be LSU quarterback, Joe Burrow. After we were all given time to process that, our attention moved to the Washington Redskins. Would they make the pick or trade down? Well, they have answered that question in the best way possible by selecting the top-rated defender and player in the 2020 NLF Draft, edge rusher Chase Young from The Ohio State University.

Young will start at defensive end across from 2019 first-round pick Montez Sweat. With Sweat limiting the ability to double team Young we should see the same dominating performances we were accustomed to on Saturdays during Young’s college career. He is a freak athlete and technician of his craft, he showed this by adding more pass-rushing combos to his game each and every week. He always found a way to disrupt opposing teams’ offenses and that shouldn’t slow down at the next level.
As a pass rusher, he has spectacular bend and the ability to work around the outside. He can also penetrate through the middle and always keeps offensive lines guessing. He continues to show his football IQ with his ability to read, analyze, and always be positively involved in both the run and pass game. He shows great tackling technique, smart pursuit in the run game, an extremely high motor and a phenomenal ability to cause turnovers, with seven forced fumbles in 2019.
Young is a player to build your program around which I am confident will happen in Washington. Young will come into a defensive line group that includes Sweat, Matt Ioannidis, Jonathan Allen, Da’Ron Payne and Ryan Kerrigan. With the help and expertise of Ron Rivera, this group could launch itself into the conversation as one of the top defensive lines in the league all centered around its new, young leader, Chase Young.
Overall, I believe this will be one of the easiest picks in the entire draft. I think the Washington Redskins did a tremendous job not overthinking here and made a great franchise-changing decision to select a game-changer in Chase Young. For that, I give them an A+ grade on their first selection of the 2020 NFL Draft.
