Minnesota Vikings: First-round 2020 NFL Draft targets
By Ian Higgins
With both the 22nd and 25th selections in the first round, the Minnesota Vikings look to retool after a change of identity following key losses in 2020.
The Minnesota Vikings have had their own unique struggles to move on from a team sitting in the middle of the road. Kirk Cousins has not taken the next step to become an elite NFL quarterback, and the roster around him is not currently capable of carrying the lost production from the quarterback position.
Standout running back Dalvin Cook has been a source of quality offense when healthy, but injuries have kept him off of the field for far too long to be considered a viable game-to-game solution.
After a lengthy exchange of drama via Stefon Diggs‘ twitter account, the star wide receiver found a new home in Buffalo, New York leaving current number one wideout Adam Thielen to work on his own with Cousins.
Tight end duo Kyle Rudolph and Irv Smith Jr.will look to compete more this season, as the changing of the tight end become more and more imminent. Minnesota’s offense has the pieces to be competitive among the contending teams of the NFC and NFL as a whole, but they need to find the final complementary pieces to finish it off.
The Vikings’ defense has also had their share of losses and impending cap casualties but will find their way with a deep defensive class in the 2020 NFL draft. From Everson Griffen and Linval Joseph to Xavier Rhodes and Tre Waynes, the Vikings will have a brand new identity on the defensive side of the ball led by remaining safety-duo Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris.
