Green Bay Packers 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft: The Pack trade back
Round 4/126 – Lynn Bowden Jr., WR, Kentucky (Trade with Rams)
The Packers’ vital need for talent at wide receiver paired with the historically deep class makes it almost a sure thing that Green Bay will dip into the position a couple of times in the 2020 NFL Draft. So, after trading out of the first-round and landing Brandon Aiyuk, I now have the Packers trading up to land another potential difference-maker in the LaFleur offense.
Lynn Bowden Jr. was a high school quarterback that converted to receiver with the Kentucky Wildcats but spent the majority of his final season back at QB after a slew of injuries forced him to into the role. That selflessness to help his team is a likable trait in and of itself, but he has a ton more to offer at the next level.
Although still pretty raw, Bowden has shown an advanced route tree and has all of the athletic traits that make him a fun projection as a slot receiver. He is easily one of the most dynamic athletes in this year’s draft and could excel in the right offense. I believe Green Bay is that right offense.
Round 5/175 – Justin Strnad, LB, Wake Forest
This offseason saw the Green Bay Packers let their leading tackler from the last three seasons, Blake Martinez, walk in free agency. They then replaced him with an oft-injured veteran in Christian Kirksey, leaving some concerns at the position going into 2020.
If Green Bay doesn’t address this need earlier in the draft, a name that should be on the Packers radar in the mid-rounds is former Wake Forest Demon Deacon, Justin Strnad.
Strnad was an extremely productive player at the collegiate level, as he notched 244 career tackles, eight sacks and brought down four interceptions over his four years before his senior year was cut short due to injury. He’s super athletic, seems to process things quickly and fits the mold of the sideline-to-sideline inside linebacker of today’s league.
If Strnad does end up sliding this late into the fifth-round, he would be a great get for the Green Bay Packers as an insurance policy for Kirksey.
