2020 NFL Mock Draft: Three rounds with latest rumors and predictions
Just like the Miami Dolphins, the Los Angeles Chargers got their franchise quarterback early in round one, then trade up in the first round of the 2020 NFL Mock Draft to find their left tackle. Miami’s was Andrew Thomas at eight, LA’s is Austin Jackson here at 31.
It is clear that the Niners want to trade back and get some more mid-round picks, so this was a logical slot for the Chargers. They now bring in a very young and raw but talented left tackle prospect, who could play right away and get some NFL hands-on learning.
At just 20-years-old, Austin Jackson should have his rookie expectations tempered a bit. He is far from complete as a prospect and will need to improve a lot at the next level. But he shows enough to warrant this first-round selection and would be a perfect fit for this offense.
Jackson is still fairly lean is not overly dominant as a blocker. He isn’t a people-mover in the run game and doesn’t have the base to sustain pass blocks for long periods of time, but that’s okay here.
With an RPO heavy, quick game, play-action offense, both Tua and Jackson should thrive. It plays to the strengths of both of them as players, and even if it isn’t until 2021, this is a recipe for success for the future of the Los Angeles Chargers franchise in their new home.
What a luxury pick this would be for the Kansas City Chiefs, adding another playmaker to their already dynamic offense. As the consensus number one running back in the 2020 NFL Mock Draft, D’Andre Swift will bring a lot to the table.
Swift does everything well as a running back. He is very elusive and excels and making defenders miss in the open field. He runs between the tackles with great vision, power and contact balance, and is a very solid receiver out of the backfield.
Even as someone who is not as high on Swift as others, I absolutely recognize that Swift could be the feature back as a major upgrade over the existing options on the Chiefs roster. Nothing against Damien Williams, but Swift is even more dynamic as a running back and has a good chance of being a 2020 NFL Mock Draft first-round pick.
