2020 NFL Mock Draft: Three rounds with latest rumors and predictions
After trading down from four to nine, the New York Giants and GM Dave Gettleman pick up some extra capital and still wind up with the player they were targeting all along.
Gettleman has been adamant over the years how important he feels a dominant offensive line is to a football team’s success. He really wants to bring in someone that can keep Daniel Jones upright and open holes for Saquon Barkley in the run game. Jedrick Wills Jr. out of Alabama fits that bill.
Wills played right tackle for the Crimson Tide, likely just due to the fact that he would be the blindside protector of his left-handed quarterback. But given the Giants’ current offensive line make-up, right tackle is their biggest need anyway.
Wills is a very sound and well-rounded blocker. He is a very technical pass blocker with great feet and powerful hands. In the run game, Wills can move people easily with great lower body drive and core strength.
The Giants could have added a dynamic defensive playmaker if they had stayed at four, or they could opt for a different offensive line prospect, but I think Wills makes the most sense for them and is the guy Gettleman is targeting whether he is able to trade down or not.
