After addressing some major issues and adding a quality depth piece, the Lions finally address the offensive line. While it seems late to be taking an interior offensive lineman, the draft just happened to fall this way this time. It’s not all bad news though.

Solomon Kindley from Georgia is a quality option this late in the draft that was getting round three hype earlier in the draft process. Kindley is not the most refined guard not does he have the best looking measurements, but he makes up for that in ferocity.

Kindley is a bad man in the trenches, using every ounce of his strength and effort to win his matchup on any given play. He relies heavily on his power game, making him a great run blocker but (currently) a sub-par pass protector.

The promise is there and is his position coach in the NFL can refine Kindley’s technique to his game, then he could turn into a league-average starter. It’s unlikely he ever turns into a high-level asset on the offensive line but could still be a contributor for the team.

This pick would leave them with Kindley, Joe Dahl, Joshua Garnett, and Oday Aboushi as the primary players in contention for the starting guard spots. While it’s not ideal, if Dahl continues to improve and can take his game to the next level, then it could be acceptable for one season.
