Scouting Report. Louisiana State University. Thaddeus Moss. 109. 50. Pick Analysis. Tight End. player

Even though tight end is not a huge need on the team, the value of Thaddeus Moss at the 109th overall pick was too good to pass up. Moss is a reliable target in the passing game with solid hands and good body control. He is also quite the blocker when he is lined up on the line of scrimmage.

After the signing of Jesse James didn’t go as planned and he never made much of an impact on the offense, drafting a tight end who can step in and perform reserve duties in year one seems like a good idea. Moss is a good target to take care of that, as while he doesn’t have the highest ceiling his floor is not that low.

Moss should come into the league already able to handle blocking duties from an inline position as he is an excellent blocker. His receiving skills are also translatable and will be able to serve as a nice check-down option while Hockenson handles the more difficult downfield routes and responsibilities that require a more developed skillset.

Before too long the Lions would have a nice tight-end duo of Moss and Hockenson that would have the potential to be top-five in the league. When surveying the league, there is a noticeable lack of quality tight ends and deploying a game-day roster that fields two of them give the offense a nice boost.
