Wide Receiver. University of Colorado. Laviska Shenault Jr.. 67. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. 50

Things just kept falling the Detroit Lions’ way in this draft, as one of the draft’s receivers with a high upside slips to the beginning of the third round due to medical concerns and being a bit of a projection at the NFL level. If Detroit’s medical team clears him based on the data they have then this pick shouldn’t be too hard to figure out.

Colorado’s Laviska Shenault Jr. is an athlete in every sense of the word in that he’s fast, quick, agile, and athletic. In space, he’s difficult to bring down and can do amazing things with the ball in his hands. But with that good also comes some bad.

Shenault is raw at just about all of the intricacies of the wide-out position, including but not limited to, route-running, body leverage, and reading defenses. He will need time and good coaching to reach his highest level of potential, but the Lions have shown that they can develop physically talented receivers into the stars they can be (and having a quarterback like Matthew Stafford certainly helps).

Shenault would be a tremendous number two receiver and compliment to current superstar wide-out Kenny Golladay in two or three years when Marvin Jones Jr. has left the team. In year one, Shenault would be able to learn from veteran Danny Amendola and come along slowly as needed in year one. Golladay is the alpha-dog of the Lions’ receivers no doubt, but with Shenault manning the second spot and tight T.J. Hockenson patrolling the middle of the field, the Detroit passing game would be hard to stop.
