2020 NFL Draft: Possible trade targets for the New York Giants
By David Glancy
Regardless of Engram’s future, the Giants are set to draft early on day two with the 36th overall selection. While the targets mentioned for the potential 31st overall pick from the 49ers could be in play for the Giants’ current second-round selection, Gettleman may look to take advantage of the draft’s deep position groups on day two.
Wide receiver is not a primary concern for the Giants entering the draft, but given the amount of talent at the position in the 2020 class, the Giants could consider making a move to add to their group of receivers. Given the talent that will be available at 36, the Giants may consider passing on a receiver with their second-round pick. The Giants would not be back on the clock until their third-round compensatory pick at 99 overall.
If Gettleman is looking to add talent around Daniel Jones, the Giants could consider moving up on day two. Sterling Shepard has struggled with head injuries and 31-year-old Golden Tate is heading into year two of his four-year contract. The Giants could look at adding a bigger target to their current group by selecting 6-foot-4 receiver Michael Pittman Jr. or Laviska Shenault Jr.
Another target the Giants would miss out at 99 would be LSU center Lloyd Cushenberry III. Center is the most pressing need on the offensive line after addressing the tackle position in the first round and while the Giants could address the position at 99 or later, Cushenberry III could be an immediate starter to build around. Cushenberry III is known in Baton Rouge for his work ethic and has the length and speed to be worth trading back into the second round.
