The New York Giants are drafting in the top ten for the fifth time in the past six years. As the Giants are exploring trades, let’s take a look at targets.

The New York Giants are entering the new decade with a new head coach and quarterback. After the Giants finished 4-12 and missed the postseason for a third consecutive season, general manager Dave Gettleman moved on from second-year coach Pat Shurmur. Shurmur was fired after a 9-23 record with the Giants and was replaced by New England Patriots Special Teams Coordinator and Receivers Coach, Joe Judge.

Judge is taking over the Giants in what will be his first head coaching role after spending eight years on Bill Belichick’s Patriots staff. Judge served as a special teams assistant for two of Nick Saban’s national champion Alabama teams before taking on a similar role with the Patriots in 2012. Judge was promoted to Special Teams Coordinator in 2015 and took on additional responsibilities as the receivers coach this past season.

While the 38-year-old coach has worked under the two most successful coaches of the millennium, he looks to instill his own style on his new team. That New York Giants team will open Week 1 with a quarterback other than Eli Manning for the first time since a rookie Manning relieved Kurt Warner in Week 1 of the 2004 season. Daniel Jones, the 2019 sixth overall selection started 12 games for the Giants in 2019 throwing for over 3,000 yards and 24 touchdowns.

The New York Giants are entering the upcoming draft looking to add protection for their young franchise quarterback after failing to make a splash free-agent signing. Right tackle Mike Remmers was replaced with former Cowboys backup Cameron Fleming. Fleming appears to be the starting right tackle entering the draft, but after only signing a one-year deal and never serving as a featured starter, he is unlikely to be the long-term solution with a draft class deep with first-round tackle talent.

While the New York Giants look to bolster the offensive line with the fourth overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, Gettleman will have options to trade back or potentially move back into the first round come draft day. We will take a deeper look at potential moves the Giants could make this Thursday.
