2020 NFL Draft: Ranking the top 30 wide receivers in a loaded class
24. Quartney Davis, Texas A&M
Leading off the fifth round grades is Aggies wideout Quartney Davis. Davis is a smooth operator in the slot who can make defenders miss after the catch. He has the upside, but catching through contact will be important for him moving forward.
25. James Proche, SMU
James Proche is on the all-hands team in the 2020 NFL Draft, and he makes a living making the improbable very easy, making catches in very tough spots. Proche can find a home, but working as a route runner will be key because he didn’t test well athletically.
26. Isaiah Coulter, Rhode Island
There isn’t much tape out there on Isaiah Coulter, but the Rhode Island standout is one of the top small-school guys in the 2020 NFL Draft, and rumor is the NFL is higher on him than the analysts in the media are. Coulter certainly has the traits, but the transition will be rocky at first.
27. Joe Reed, Virginia
Joe Reed tested extremely well at the combine, and it shows on tape. He’s electric after the catch and has a great pair of mitts on him. Reed will need to work more on the nuance of his route running, but his upside as a gadget player is there.
28. Lynn Bowden Jr., Kentucky
Lynn Bowden Jr. might be the most versatile player in the 2020 NFL Draft, having played both quarterback and wide receiver in the 2019 season. Bowden is a tough projection because of limited targets in the passing game. His athletic profile will get him drafted, and teams will hope to mold the ball of clay he is.
29. Jeff Thomas, Miami
Jeff Thomas would be getting more buzz in the 2020 NFL Draft if it weren’t for the multiple suspensions at Miami. He would be worth taking a flyer on solely because of his wicked quickness, vertical ability, and reliable hands.
30. Quez Watkins, Southern Miss
Quez Watkins rounds out the top 30 and is the only sixth-round grade to make the list. Watkins has the speed, as he ran a 4.36 at the scouting combine. Speed is becoming the name of the game, and his, combined with a solid route tree over the middle of the field, is worth it on day three.
