CB- Essang Bassey, Wake Forest

Grant Haley was a weakness at the nickel cornerback position last year. Corey Ballentine had to step in, despite never playing in the slot in college. With the combination of James Bradberry, Deandre Baker, and Sam Beal on the outside; the Giants are relatively set on the boundary. Former undrafted rookies Derrick Baity and Rashaun Gaulden fill out the rest of the depth at cornerback.

Gettleman could target a smaller cornerback like Essang Bassey for depth between the fifth and seventh rounds of the draft. He started at Wake Forest and had five interceptions as a senior. At 5-foot-9, 191 pounds, Bassey was better in off-man but has the speed to cover quicker receivers and is feisty for his size.

S- Khaleke Hudson, Michigan

With Julian Love converting to free safety from cornerback, he should have the first crack at the starting job next to Jabrill Peppers at strong safety. For depth, the Giants currently have Sean Chandler, Nate Ebner (recently signed special teamer), undrafted rookie Mark McLaurin, and Dravon Askew-Henry (former New York Guardian), Nate Ebner, who was signed in free agency, is mainly there as a special teams gunner and wanted to maintain his connection with former New England Patriots special teams coordinator in Judge.

Khaleke Hudson played safety and linebacker as a hybrid defender. At 5-foot-11, 224 pounds, the senior is undersized as a linebacker but he could move around in the secondary and can contribute on special teams right away. Hudson played in the Viper position at Michigan and was a versatile tackling machine last season, as he had over 100 total tackles along with seven and a half sacks in 2017.
