Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Alabama. 8. QB. Tua Tagovailoa. player. 59

And with this trade, the Miami Dolphins create a little drama and still get the quarterback everyone thought they were tanking for a year ago.

If not for Tua Tagovailoa’s injury struggles, this pick and scenario don’t happen as he’s likely the second player off the board, but with his injury history, he could certainly slip a little bit.

The Dolphins aren’t going to repeat the Drew Brees mistake of 2006. This time, with assets in both the 2020 and 2021 NFL Draft, they can afford to bring in a player like Tagovailoa and see what he’s got.

At this point, he’s fully healthy and ready to go. His current medicals are clean, which is tremendous considering the devastating nature of the hip injury he suffered this past season.

Call them freak injuries if you want, but Tua’s durability concerns are legitimate. The Dolphins are taking a risk here, but the fact that it’s in a trade up with their second of three first-rounds picks diminishes that risk a little bit.

The Dolphins and Cardinals obviously have a prior trading relationship as the Cardinals shipped off Josh Rosen to Miami a year ago for a second-round pick. This time around, the Dolphins get a guy they really believe can be a star in the NFL.
