Scouting Report. Utah State. Pick Analysis. QB. Jordan Love. 6. player. 13

How’s this for a shocker?

The Los Angeles Chargers have been keeping their draft plans close to the vest, but after losing longtime starting quarterback Philip Rivers, something has to be done at the QB position.

The Chargers are obviously hoping with the core of players they have that they will not be picking in the top 10 again anytime soon. They have to make sure they get a QB they like and want to develop, and Jordan Love might be the best one for their current situation.

He doesn’t have the injury history or Tua Tagovailoa, nor will the pressure be to play him immediately as it would with Tua, or Oregon’s Justin Herbert for that matter.

He may have as high of a ceiling as Tua if developed correctly, and he certainly has a higher ceiling (but lower floor) than Justin Herbert.

This is a risk, but a calculated one as Love would be stepping onto a roster with an elite defense at all levels and a nice core of targets in the passing game.

Not to mention, no pressure to play immediately with Anthony Lynn apparently ‘bullish’ on Tyrod Taylor.

The Chargers could develop Love at their own pace, and that alone is worth taking him here at six overall. Taking a QB in round one usually involves pressure to play immediately, but that wouldn’t have to be the case with Jordan Love.

This pick could shock the world but the Chargers are in a position to help Love succeed at his pace and their pace.
