OT. Andrew Thomas. 5. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Georgia. player. 59

The Dolphins turn mock drafts upside down early in this one by going offensive tackle instead of quarterback with the fifth overall pick.

There have been countless mocks made with the Dolphins moving up to the third overall pick with the Lions, seemingly mindlessly giving up a second-round pick just to ensure their QB of the future.

But the Dolphins may have a couple of other plays in this draft. They need to make sure they get the best collection of players they possibly can, and diminishing their assets from the get go is not the way to do it, necessarily.

The Dolphins get, in my mind, the best pure left tackle prospect in this draft class in Andrew Thomas here, though he was a freshman All-American at right tackle as well.

He doesn’t have the athletic upside of the other guys in this draft class, but he plays with clean technique and he looks like a decade-plus long starter at the left tackle spot in the NFL.

The Dolphins have picks and ammo to play with to get their QB later on…
