Jordyn Brooks. player. Scouting Report. LB. 30. 49. Pick Analysis. Texas Tech

Jordyn Brooks has been touted as a possible surprise first-round pick by NFL Network’s Peter Schrager.

Take that for what you will, but that would seem to indicate that at least one team probably has Brooks with a first-round grade or maybe has him as one of the best off-ball linebackers behind Isaiah Simmons, who is more of a hybrid player anyway.

The Packers seem as likely as anyone, and they’re a team that has pretty consistently made interesting picks in the first round in recent years.

Last year, the Packers took Darnell Savage in the first round after it was reported he was going to be a surprise player in the back end of day one. In 2018, they took Jaire Alexander higher than most expected after he was injured in his final year of college.

After losing Blake Martinez in free agency, the Packers brought in Christian Kirksey but they need another starter to go along with him.

Brooks exploded this past season at Texas Tech with his first 100-plus tackle season and a whopping 20 tackles for loss.

He ran a really good 4.54 in the 40-yard dash and that kind of speed with his instincts and fearless mentality playing downfield make him an intriguing fit to replace Martinez in Green Bay’s defense.
