2020 NFL Draft: Tua Tagovailoa falls in two-round 2020 NFL mock draft
The Detroit Lions picked up the 26th overall pick after trading down from three with Miami. They addressed their secondary with their first selection, but now turn their attention to the defensive line. They released nose tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison and now need a replacement.
Oklahoma defensive lineman Neville Gallimore has loads of potential that shows up on tape, however, he’ll need proper coaching to elevate his game early. He can dominate in a two-gap alignment and could develop into a nasty run stuffer. Gallimore also has raw pass rush skills which led to four sacks in 2019.
I think its time that the Seattle Seahawks put a stable line in front of Russell Wilson. It seems like there’s been a revolving door at tackle for a while now and Seattle needs to find a capable starting tackle.
Isaiah Wilson has been climbing up draft boards just like his fellow Georgia tackle, Andrew Thomas. Wilson played right tackle at Georgia and did a pretty good job. His strength is undeniable, but his footwork and technique need work. His potential is so high that teams have been putting a first-round grade on him, so if Seattle wants him it looks like they’ll have to use their first-round selection on him.
The Baltimore Ravens linebackers were pretty bad in 2019 and it’s clear why. After losing C.J. Mosley to the Jets Baltimore failed to replace him and it showed. Now they find his replacement in the 2020 NFL Draft selecting Oklahoma linebacker Kenneth Murray. Murray has the speed to go sideline to sideline and chase down ball carriers. In 2019, he finished with 102 tackles with 17 for loss and 4 sacks. Murray would be an immediate upgrade to anyone in their linebacker room.
The Tennessee Titans are in need of an edge rusher and Penn State lineman Yetur Gross-Matos can certainly attack the quarterback. He has some nice developing pass rush moves that could come into use right away.
He may need to add some more strength to his frame, but he should be okay. He totaled 9.5 sacks in 2019 for the Nittany Lions, but has the potential to be a double-digit sack guy for the Titans. He’s best when he has his hands in the dirt and only has one assignment, rush the passer.
The Green Bay Packers must surround their star quarterback with talent and take a wide receiver early in the 2020 NFL Draft. Arizona State wideout Brandon Aiyuk could bring a nice element to their offense that they do not have: speed.
Aiyuk could be the playmaker that Green Bay has been lacking. They have Davante Adams who is one of the best route runners in the game, but they need a guy that can take it the distance on any given play. Aiyuk can do just that. Drops may be a bit concerning, but he shouldn’t have too much trouble moving forward.
The San Francisco 49ers took a top wide receiver with their first selection, but now turn to the other side of the ball taking Auburn cornerback Noah Igbinoghene to solidify their secondary. Igbinoghene is a converted wide receiver that is still learning the cornerback position. He’s a very physical cornerback that disrupts pass timing by jamming his receiver. If the Niners do take Igbinoghene they’ll have to rely on their coaching staff to get him ready as he is extremely raw.
The Kansas City Chiefs are your reigning Super Bowl Champions which means there aren’t many holes that need fixing. One area that can use an upgrade, however, is the interior offensive line. Stefen Wisniewski, who started at left guard for the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, signed on with the Steelers during free agency. They do have Austin Reiter at center, but he’s not a guy that would keep them from making an upgrade.
Enter Cesar Ruiz, who is rated as the highest interior offensive lineman in the 2020 NFL Draft by many in the media. He has a good combination of athleticism and power which he uses effectively to strike first with his quick hands. Ruiz would be an anchor on the Chiefs offensive line as he has the versatility to play in any zone blocking scheme.
As a run blocker, Ruiz does a good job of getting to the second level of blocks allowing the running back to gain chunk yardage. Ruiz won’t be tied down into one spot either as he projects well at either center or guard position.
