2020 NFL Draft: Tua Tagovailoa falls in two-round 2020 NFL mock draft
2020 NFL Draft: Round 1
The Cincinnati Bengals have waited a long time for a quarterback like Joe Burrow. They believed they had a franchise quarterback when they drafted Andy Dalton back in 2011 with their second-round selection, but he never led them to any sustained success. Burrow has the talent, toughness and swagger to make it as a top quarterback in the NFL.
There have been some people suggesting that Washington may be looking to trade down or they could take a quarterback here, but I am not buying any of that. I know the phrase “generational talent” gets thrown around a lot, but Chase Young has the potential to be one of the best pass rushers the league has ever seen.
Some will say that he disappeared at the end of the season, but if they actually watched the tape, they would see at least three offensive linemen on accounting for him at all times. This is a no brainer for me. Take the best overall player in the 2020 NFL Draft Washington fans will be happy, to say the least.
The 2020 NFL Draft starts here as the Miami Dolphins move up two slots to draft their quarterback, but it cost them their last of three first-round picks to get him. Dolphins fans may not like giving up anything to move up just two spots, but the Chargers could be just as aggressive in their attempts to land Justin Herbert.
This decision came down to if they were comfortable staying at five and hoping Herbert is still there. Nobody is really sure how Miami feels about Tagovailoa, but reports suggest they are turned off by his injury history. If this was strictly about talent and potential Tagovailoa would be the obvious choice, but there are big-time durability questions.
Herbert does have franchise quarterback potential and could’ve been the first signal-caller taken last year had he not returned to Oregon. He has the strong arm and athletic ability as well as the size that NFL teams like to see in a quarterback prospect.
Another deciding factor in how the top ten of the 2020 NFL Draft falls is what Dave Gettleman and the New York Giants do with the fourth pick. There has been talk that they could look to move back and collect picks, but with Miami moving up to three for Herbert I’m not sure who NY could match up with for a trade.
Instead, they stay at four and select one of the best offensive tackles in this class, Tristan Wirfs. He has the versatility to play either tackle spot or he could even slide inside if asked. His athleticism was on full display at the scouting combine where he ran a 4.85 40 yard dash. He also had a vertical of 36.5 and a 121″ broad jump, weighing in at 320 pounds.
Wirfs is my personal favorite prospect in the entire 2020 NFL Draft. He has some things he needs to work on, but he has the potential to be a starting tackle for at least a decade. The New York Giants need to have Daniel Jones in mind when making this selection.
After trading back with Miami, the Detroit Lions select the player they most likely would’ve went with if they stayed at three. Their secondary underwent a major overhaul after trading both Quandre Diggs and Darius Slay. Detroit did sign Desmond Trufant after he was released from Atlanta, but they still need to address their secondary.
Jeff Okudah has the potential to be a top-flight cover corner in the NFL. He’s far and away the best cornerback prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft as well as the best I’ve seen in recent drafts. He’s technically sound and has the competitive toughness you want to see in defensive backs. He’ll help out in the run game as well, stepping up to make the tackle.
