Justin Herron, OL, Wake Forest

For my final late-round target for the Buffalo Bills, I selected Justin Herron from Wake Forest. Herron is an interesting prospect, as a four-year starter who did a good job throughout his tenure.

I think that Justin Herron’s best position in the NFL will be guard. Watching the film I think he has great footwork and demonstrates great bend in his game. He does a good job with the usage of his hands and his ability to diagnose blitzes. Herron does very well with speed rushers but tends to struggle against power rushers.

This is where Herron needs to build his core as he translates to the NFL. I think that Herron needs to do a better job of keeping balance and adjusting to different rushes within the play. He is quick to jab/punch the defender leaving him vulnerable and off-balance.

I think the move to guard will allow Herron to have a step up on other guards with his quickness and light feet. If Herron does kick inside to guard, it’s important that he understands how important strength is inside with blocking defensive tackles as opposed to edge rushers.

This move would add depth to the Buffalo Bills interior and could provide flexibility to be active on game day for tackle and guard. Once Herron gets acclimated to his position and gains strength to his core he has a chance to be a starter in this league. He is a very smart player who has a high football IQ.
