2020 NFL Draft: Late-Round sleeper targets for the Minnesota Vikings
By David Glancy
With six picks in the last three rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings will look to add late-round talent that can make an immediate impact.
With two picks in the first round, one pick in the second round, and two picks in the third round, the Minnesota Vikings will look to prioritize their offensive line and secondary early in the draft. With additional holes at receiver and on the defensive line, the Vikings should fill their biggest positions of need by the end of day two. The Vikings also have a total of seven selections on day three and are in a position to fill out the roster with players that can make an immediate impact.
The Vikings can use their final seven picks to add competition to the offensive line, fill out the receiving group after the departure of Stefon Diggs, add a potential starter to the defensive line and fill out a depleted secondary after the departure of starting corners. With two picks in the first round and multiple position groups to address, the Vikings should look to draft the best player available in the first round.
Offensive line and secondary will be the Vikings priority entering the draft after a quiet free agency period which left more questions for general manager, Rick Spielman. The Vikings lost starting corners Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes while the tagging of safety Anthony Harris leaves a cloudy future for the safety position.
Left tackle Riley Reiff carries the second-highest hit to the Vikings’ salary cap, only behind Kirk Cousins. Reiff carries a $13.2 million hit in 2020 and a $13.95 million hit against the cap in 2021. With his performance failing to meet expectations given his high salary, the Vikings will look to add replacement tackles through the draft. This post aims at taking a deeper look into day three targets the Vikings may consider when searching for their steal of the 2020 NFL Draft.
