2020 NFL Draft: Trades shake up this two-round 2020 NFL mock draft
By Jason Truitt
Everson Griffen has said his goodbyes to the SKOL nation. Zack Baun from Wisconsin can be an ideal replacement, fitting the Vikings 4-3 look as he can alter as an off-ball outside linebacker or defensive end. He’s hazardous off the edge, secured 12.5 sacks in his final year as a Badger. He can be asked to drop back into coverage from his stance as well.
Mike Zimmer has an affinity for outside-backers who can efficiently cover a substantial area in the box. Baun showed sufficient speed at the combine, clocking in a 4.65 forty. Getting Baun on board will help Minnesota’s front seven cope with Griffen now gone.
The Detroit Lions pass-rush remains a top-concern after another losing season. The defensive line did win something last year: The NFL’s worst pass-rush win rate. This ultimately led them to the bottom of the league in sacks, doing so just 28 times (T-29th).
Yetur Gross-Matos will bolster their trenches if Detroit takes him here with the extra first-round pick they got in their trade back with Miami. Gross-Matos is sneaky off his stance as he’s always unexpectedly stunting inside. He can even be utilized in the interior at a 3 technique. Loves to swipe and rip his way when he squeezes through gaps. Overall, Gross-Matos’ great length and explosiveness give him a solid opportunity to excel at the next level in Cory Undlin’s defense.
TRADE
One of my favorite NFL sayings, there are three things certain in life: Death, taxes and the Seattle Seahawks trading back in the NFL Draft. Actions speak louder than words, and Pete Carroll has displayed some notorious ones on draft day.
The Seahawks have traded back in the first round of the draft again and again; this year shouldn’t be any different. This time, they acquire extra capital in the 2020 NFL Draft on a trade back with the New York Jets.
Remember how I said the Jets should wait for a receiver? Ya, they should, but not for too long. The opportunity for Adam Gase to bring in a potential number one wide receiver like Denzel Mims is too enticing to pass on.
Mims can immediately step in the cleats of Sam Darnold’s number one target, Robby Anderson, who signed with the Panthers as a free agent. He possesses eye-catching size and speed to tag along with his vast catch radius and strong hands. The receiver will get vertical if needed and runs a plethora of routes well.
The Ravens felt the absence of C.J. Mosley against Derrick Henry in the playoffs. The linebacker core is the weakest link on Baltimore’s defense. It needs a boost and LSU’s Patrick Queen is a premium off-ball linebacker with lots to offer. Queen showed off his sideline-to-sideline speed at the combine with a 4.5 forty, 94th percentile among linebackers.
The attribute that makes him stand out is his production in the passing game. He adds plenty of range and reliability when tracking tight ends. John Harbaugh cannot lose out on Queen if he’s on the board this late on day one. He’s physical, urgent and two-dimensional. LSU is known for pumping out high talent linebackers to the NFL.
Believe it or not, the Tennessee Titans finished at the near the bottom of the NFL in total sack-yards-lost. Things haven’t looked up lately with veteran tackle Jack Conklin leaving. Fans would love if the Titans bulked up the wall in front of Derrick Henry and Ryan Tannehill, who are both guaranteed about $30M total throughout the 2020 season.
Isaiah Wilson can be selected to keep the production stagnant up-front. His 2020 NFL Draft stock has risen exponentially lately, and for good reason. He dominated the combine and showed to be a ludicrous run-blocker at the point of attack in college. Like his Georgia teammate Andrew Thomas, Wilson also possesses incredible length and size to easily anchor the outsides. The tackle is absurd with his strong hands and engages with a powerful punch to initiate heavy momentum and leverage.
Like Courtland Sutton did for Denver, Davante Adams also carried the receiving core on his back for the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers can’t always target Adams in desperate situations. It’s becoming too obvious.
Tee Higgins can fit the role of a trustworthy sidekick to Adams. Higgins bears polished hands and really perseveres to the get that pigskin. Will not drop the ball once he gets a grip on it. He can turn a simple check down pass into something more with his superb YAC ability. Rodgers should adore his company.
TRADE
The Indianapolis Colts are on the clock following a trade up with the 49ers.
Philip Rivers is ready to roll on a new squad. But the 38-year-old is fragile and only signed through this season. I expect a healthy Rivers to perform well in his new home; however, the team should look for a long-term option at quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft with Jordan Love.
Rivers could groom Love into a top-notch starting quarterback. He’s accurate on the move and threaded some stellar throws during his tenure. The mobile passer properly climbs and scrambles around the pocket while processing downfield, high football IQ. Love gets good touch and placement on deep tosses and throws the ball away when needed. With a little development, he’d be more than capable to lead an NFL team.
With the final first-round pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select A.J. Terrell
Terrell’s traits can surely enhance this secondary led by Tyrann Mathieu. Terrell is savvy with his eye discipline and mental processing as a defensive back. He’s reactive with his feet and boasts a lengthy frame. Terrell is tremendous in press coverage while managing the opposing receiver’s inside or outside releases. He has fluid hips and ball skills to create unexpected turnovers. The former Clemson corner acquires solid coverage ability in both man and zone.
