The Trade: Saints trade #130 and a 2021 4th to the Lions for #109 and a 2021 6th

In this scenario, the Saints can move up and find a great athlete that may not be available at pick 130. This trade works for the Lions because they get a nice pick swap for 2021, while keeping a 4th round pick this year.

The Target: Ben Bartch OT Saint John’s (MN)

Bartch is one of the most intriguing mid round picks on the board. The former tight end converted left tackle is a great athlete at 6’5 309 pounds. Bartch displayed great power and good use of hands despite being inexperienced playing on the offensive line at a college level.

A knock on him is that he played Division III football, which is fair because the jump from D-III athletes to NFL athletes is tremendous. But that didn’t stop Bartch from putting on a show at the Senior Bowl.

The Saints do have one of the best offensive lines in the league, so they don’t necessarily need Bartch. But Sean Payton is a great offensive mind, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him pick up a good athlete that needs more development.

Maybe they use him as an offensive line version of Taysom Hill. Since Bartch does have experience as a tight end, he can be used as a 6th lineman and on trick plays in goal line situations. Even if they prefer just to use him as a back up or rotational lineman, Bartch would provide value to this team and is worth the trade up if he is available.
