The trade: Saints trade #23 and a 2021 1st to the Browns for #10

In this scenario, the Saints would have their guy in mind, similar to what they did in 2018, when they traded up for Marcus Davenport. The incentive for the Browns is to pick up additional draft capital on a team already flooded with young stars.

They already picked up Jack Conklin this offseason, and while that doesn’t erase the need to pick up offensive lineman, it does give them a bit of breathing room to move back and pick up additional draft capital.

The pick: CeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma

CeeDee Lamb and the Saints are a match made in heaven. The only problem is many other teams probably feel this way about Lamb. The Saints have already gone out and picked up a speedy receiver in Emmanuel Sanders, which is could be an indicator that they are not looking for a guy like Lamb.

We do need to take into consideration that Sanders only signed a two-year deal, and suffered a torn Achilles at the end of the 2018 season. Sanders is expected to be a contributor right away, but in the long term it could still be wise to invest in the receiver position. This way when Drew Brees retires, the next man up will have elite young skill position players for the foreseeable future.

Going up against a Michael Thomas/CeeDee Lamb combo sounds like an absolute nightmare for any defensive coordinator going into 2020. Add on Emmanuel Sanders, Jared Cook, Alvin Kamara, an elite offensive line, and oh yeah Drew Brees. This would turn out to be a deadly passing attack.

Lamb will also be able to contribute in the short term during big time games. He is coming off a run at Oklahoma in which he played in three playoff games and finished with 18 receptions, 294 yards, and two total touchdowns in those games. He will need to be ready for the big moment once again, as the Saints are a legitimate contender in the NFC who will be tested early and often.
