Alabama. 59. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa. 1

Will it take a trade up to secure Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on draft day? It’s possible, but the Miami Dolphins have (most likely) pumping smoke that they’d be fine with either Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert at the fifth overall selection. Either way, it feels like Tagovailoa is their guy, and here they get him with the fifth pick.

Tagovailoa came in to the 2019 season as the top quarterback for most, but a major injury leaves questions for everyone. Videos came up of him during his pro day, where his mobility looked pretty good overall. However, since teams haven’t gotten to clear him, it makes it difficult to project where he will go on draft day.

The Dolphins bank on what they’ve seen on tape here. Tagovailoa has all the talent in the world. He’s got great mechanics, including quick and compact release. Tagovailoa has great accuracy to all levels of the field, including great touch down the field despite average arm strength. He excels in the quick/RPO game and has great placement on in breaking routes.

His ability to read defenses, especially diagnosing man versus zone pre-snap, will help him be a starter early on. Tagovailoa is ready to change the course of this franchise.
