Jaguars 7-round mock draft: Building around Gardner Minshew
By Evan Bachman
Anthony Gordon is certainly worth a shot in the dark type of pick. Like any mid round quarterback he has his flaws, which are turnovers and his inability to deal with pressure. He does have some tools to work with, however the most important thing being his accuracy, his adjusted completion percentage was 79.8 %, according to PFF, which shows that his high completion percentage isn’t just a product of offensive scheme, but that he actually is really accurate.
Like any late round pick, A.J. Green has concerns to his game, most being his lack of speed as he recorded a 4.62 40 yard dash at the combine. This is absolutely concerning because if you lack speed that means you have to be nearly perfect from a technical standpoint to hold up at the next level. Although he isn’t fast, he does have good size at 6-foot-1, 202 pounds and he has produced two solid seasons so far receiving a 77.8 grade in 2018 and a 76.3 grade in 2019 from PFF.
Benito Jones is just 6-foot-1, 316 pounds and that makes for a short, but massive frame. He isn’t the best athlete, but he is strong. As a pass rusher he utilized that strength to his advantage to push the pocket. At Ole Miss, he had solid, but not great production rushing the passer, so while he’s worth giving an opportunity to make an NFL roster, there’s not much to suggest that he’ll develop into someone who should be getting valuable snaps in the NFL.
Binjimen Victor is an interesting player. He’s inconsistent, but also shows glimpses of the spectacular. In a huge game against Penn State in 2018 Victor changed the entire game when he made a spectacular, stretched out catch then reversed his field to take it in for a 47 yard touchdown.
At the same time however he never really developed into a completely reliable receiver at Ohio State. That mix of the occasional spectacular play and the inconsistency makes him a late draft pick or undrafted free agent type of prospect.
