Cleveland Browns: Possible trade targets in the 2020 NFL Draft
With the 2020 NFL Draft less than a week away, we take a look at some prospects the Cleveland Browns could make a trade for on draft day.
The 2020 NFL Draft is in less than a week! This is certainly an exciting time for all football fans, but the draft has been the Super Bowl, of sorts, for the Cleveland Browns and their fans in recent history.
The Cleveland Browns have had more than their fair share of number one and top five or ten draft picks over the years. They have not found success on the field, leading to attention being turned to draft day.
Heck, the Cleveland Browns have been associated so much with the draft in recent years they even made a movie centered around them! But unfortunately for the real-life Browns, they haven’t been as successful as they made Sonny Weaver Jr. out to be in the film. They have disappointed on the field and the majority of the time in the war room.
But now there is yet another new regime! Which happens to be made up of multiple people from a previous one, now assuming different and larger roles in Andrew Berry and Pau DePodesta. Will they find success this go-round in Cleveland? That remains to be seen.
New general manager Andrew Berry said in his introductory press conference that he wanted to be known for his aggression. He and his front office staff have been true to their word in free agency, going out and getting a couple of big name players like Jack Conklin and Austin Hooper.
But what would aggression look like in the 2020 NFL Draft? Certainly, when most people think of aggression in the draft they think of trading up. Taking a chance, mortgaging the future to go up and get a guy that you think will change your franchise.
With the current front office focused heavily on analytics, it seems to many that they would be more likely to trade down than trade up. Move down a bit, still get in impactful player and accumulate more and more chances to do so throughout the 2020 NFL Draft and beyond. But if a certain player that they really like and that fits their scheme begins to fall farther than they expected, Berry could be on the phone with other teams looking to make a move.
Here we will take a look at a few 2020 NFL Draft prospects that could fit that mold for the Cleveland Browns. There are a couple of players I could see them trading up for in the first round, even from their 10th overall slot. Others, I could see them targeting following a trade down from 10 or even with a trade up back into the first round.
And there will certainly be players that they like throughout the middle rounds of the draft that fall farther than expected that they will look at moving up and locking in as a future Cleveland Brown at a bargain.
