Cornerback. Florida. 1. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 42. C.J. Henderson

Is corner the biggest need for the San Francisco 49ers right now? Perhaps not. However, it’s going to be difficult to pass up on the value here, even with a couple of top receivers still on the board. The Niners struggled a good deal in coverage late in the Super Bowl, and it’s part of the reason why they lost the game.

C.J. Henderson has gotten a lot of buzz in recent weeks, and there have been reports that teams have him above Jeffrey Okudah. Even if it’s smoke, it’s pretty clear that Henderson is viewed as a top 20 player in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Henderson has plenty of great traits to warrant a first-round selection. He has excellent cover skills throughout each rep, as he shows great change of direction and smooth footwork at the line of scrimmage.

Henderson’s recovery speed is very good as well, and he has good ball skills to frustrate receivers at the catch point. While his tackling effort leaves quite a bit to be desired, there’s no doubting the impact he will bring to an NFL team from the day he gets into the building. The Niners get a cornerstone for the future on defense.
