The Los Angeles Rams don’t have a first-round pick, but they have plenty of capital to work with in the top 100 picks to rebuild their defense.

The Los Angeles Rams are not far removed from being the champions of the NFC, yet their team is going to look drastically different in 2020 than it did just two short seasons ago.

Todd Gurley is gone. Brandin Cooks is gone. Wade Phillips and many of the top defenders the Rams had during their run to the Super Bowl two seasons ago — like Ndamukong Suh, Dante Fowler Jr., Cory Littleton, and many more — are also gone.

This Rams team is going to have the same high expectations with a completely different roster, but many of the same core pieces in place.

New defensive coordinator Brandon Staley is bringing a Vic Fangio-flavored defense to Los Angeles and he brought one of his former pupils — one time Chicago Bears first-round pick Leonard Floyd — with him.

The Rams were also extremely close to losing former first-round pick Michael Brockers, a key piece of their defensive line, before his free agent deal with the Baltimore Ravens fell through and he wound up back with the Rams.

After all of the free agency festivities and the tough losses the Rams suffered, their primary needs remain on the defensive side of the ball, particularly off the edge and at the inside linebacker position. The Rams also need depth in the secondary and offensively, they could use a little depth at the skill positions and possibly a new starter at the center position.
