Broncos have had extensive communication with top 2020 WRs
The Denver Broncos have reportedly had extensive communication with all of the top three wide receivers in the 2020 NFL Draft.
It’s no secret that the Denver Broncos are interested in the top wide receivers in the 2020 NFL Draft.
How interested?
Interested enough to have had multiple pre-draft interactions with all of the players who are generally considered the top three at the position in this class: Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb and Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs III.
According to Woody Paige, the Broncos not only met with this top three at the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine, but they have been in contact with all three on multiple occasions since then.
"Elway obviously is extremely intrigued by the trio. The Broncos held formal interviews with each at the NFL combine, and they would have summoned them to Dove Valley if the league hadn’t forbidden prospect visits because of the coronavirus pandemic. But it is known that the Broncos have held multiple video conferences with Jeudy, Lamb and Ruggs. The league allows personal computer-and-call connection contacts between coaches, administrators and scouts with the players up to three times a week, with an hour maximum during every interaction. The sides can discuss schemes, philosophies and personal information.Woody Paige, The Gazette"
There have been rumors floating around early in the week already about the Broncos being interested in potentially trading up for an offensive tackle, but Woody is suggesting in his piece that the Broncos trade up for their choice of the top receiver in the 2020 NFL Draft.
If that’s what they choose to do, he also suggests they use their third-round picks to move back into the second round, an idea that has been slowly and surely gaining steam in the last few weeks.
As a matter of fact, it would be surprising to me if the Broncos did not try to package their third-round picks in an attempt to acquire an additional second-rounder, even if they don’t use their second-round pick to trade up in the first round.
Trading up in the first round for a wide receiver might not be the most popular decision the Broncos could make right now, but it would also make a lot of sense.
Denver has a young quarterback and not nearly enough at the receiver position right now to support his development. The Broncos really need probably two receivers who can contribute right away, and if they go for nay any one of Lamb, Jeudy, or Ruggs, they would undoubtedly be getting an instant contributor.
According to Dane Brugler, the Broncos ‘really like’ CeeDee Lamb as well as Denzel Mims and Jerry Jeudy. Pretty much everyone has been mock drafting the Broncos Henry Ruggs all offseason, too, and the fit there is obvious with his long speed.
John Elway has a tough decision on his hands. He doesn’t have to back himself into any corners in the 2020 NFL Draft, but the Broncos undoubtedly need to come away with a wide receiver who can make an impact right away in 2020.
