2020 NFL Draft: Potential trade-up targets for Washington Redskins
By Matt Murray
Tennessee Titans and Pick 93
The Washington Redskins have a couple of prospects that would be worth the move to 93. The Titans are still looking for more 2020 NFL Draft capital so they could listen to calls for the 93rd pick. At that point in the draft, there will be some valuable talent at positions of need for the Redskins. This includes Terrell Burgess who I wrote could be a sleeper target for the team in round four but if they decide that he is their guy this could be a position to secure him as a Redskin.
There continues to be more conversation around Burgess and this could see him slide up draft boards. Burgess was productive as a one-year starter at Utah and graded as the fourth-highest safety in coverage with PFF. His snaps were split between slot corner, in the box, and at free safety as the Utes were moving their defensive backs around all season due to their versatility.
He is an extremely cognitive player and has the ability to both play in man coverage and drop into his position at free safety and roam deep in coverage. The biggest negative I see with Burgess is his size. At just over 200 pounds he looks closer to the profile of a corner than a safety however a good strength and condition program and he should be able to add some weight.
Like Chinn, this trade and pick is only an option if they select Chase Young with the second pick.
Logan Wilson has been climbing draft boards for about the past month. Although linebacker isn’t a need this season they need to start building the position now for the future. Wilson could fill either the SAM or MIKE linebacker position both of which will be vacant within the next two years with Jon Bostic on a two-year deal, Thomas Davis and Reuben Foster both on one-year deals.
Logan Wilson is an intelligent linebacker who reads and reacts to plays extremely quickly allowing him to shoot gaps and break into coverage quickly. He plays great going downhill and his tackling technique is spot on. His biggest weakness is man coverage due to his lack of fluidity and ability to change direction.
Wilson will be a day two pick, I don’t see any chance he slides with such a shallow class at linebacker. If the Washington Redskins want to add Wilson to the mix, a trade-up may be necessary. This pick I believe is independent of whoever they pick first as linebacker is a need for this team no matter who they pick with their first selection.
