The 2020 offseason saw the Green Bay Packers clean house at the inside linebacker position as they let their top two options from last season go in free agency (Blake Martinez, B.J. Goodson). They did bring in Christian Kirksey, who will provide a veteran presence, but his durability is a huge concern.

That means Green Bay should be taking a long look at the top talents at the position in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft.

If the Packers aren’t lucky enough to land players like Patrick Queen or Kenneth Murray in the first round, a name that could be a trade-up target in the second is Willie Gay Jr. out of Mississippi State.

Gay would immediately provide athleticism and sideline-to-sideline ability that Green Bay has been desperate for in centerfield for some time now. At the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine, Gay ran a 4.43 40 and had a 39.5-inch vertical, which were both good for second-best amongst linebackers.

Don’t be too quick to dub him as just a workout warrior either. Gay shows enough instincts to predict he could only improve in that department with NFL coaching and is a physical tackler with as much energy as anybody on the field.

I love his fit in Green Bay and he could prove to be a smart trade-up target considering the injury history of Kirksey.
